POEM ANALYSISIn the poem Nikki Giovanni is talking about how she remembers life was when she was younger. She refers to “Black” as a race not just as a color. She reflects on life in Hollydale. The language she uses is a bit confusing. In the fifth stanza she used the word “your’re”, I don’t really understand why she did that. Also by the tone of stanza five it sounds like she doesn’t worry about much.

Literary Devices
In the poem “Nikki-Rosa” the literary devises that are used are Assonance, Cliché, Idiom, and Idiom. They were used to show how only people that come from the way of life as she does can under stand what is being stated in the poem. The assonance was used when Nikki stated, “living in Woodlawn with no inside toilet…” The assonance is the repetition of the letter “I”. The idiom is used by her reference to the way of life in “Woodlawn” and “Hollydale”.
